Your MP's Question of the Week #14

Terjemahan di sini.

In blogosphere which I have read here and there, the general perception has been that I have been "getting too personal" with AirAsia.

The complaints seem to range from why I continue to "harp" on the issues that I have raised in this blog and in parliament and why I also can't seem to be able to let go when the people's money have been sinisterly being abused for this private company.

If I am not wrong, most people would have preferred me to "close one eye." I really don't see the wisdom in that because why would I do that when I know fully well that two eyes will allow me to see things in better perspective?

To be honest, I have nothing personal against AirAsia and I wish I didn't have to raise all those issues with regard to the building of the LCCT for a private company using public funds and the money owed to MAB to the tune of RM110 million.

Just when I thought I would relent and not be too hard on AirAsia, this had to crop up.

After you have read what this blogger's take about this same airline is all about then you guys and gals can come back and then tell me whether, all this while, I have a 'good nose' to sniff out the dirty trails where our people's hard-earned money had been willy nilly used to prop up private businesses or not. Go, and read all about it here.

So the question for this week is this:

Should your MP for Wangsa Maju 'close one eye' on dirty maneuvers of the administration of using public's money to 'finance' private companies or he should continue to keep both his eyes wide open to such subtle or blatant abuses of public funds?

Visits to Sungei Mulia and Danau Kota

UPDATE, 16 June 2008: Now, read about the "horrors" that I had discovered during my visits. Go to the lower section of this post.

Here are some pictures taken during my visits this morning and afternoon. A write up of the events will be posted later. Please bear with me.

Launching of the "Free from Aedes Mosquitoes" in Sungei Mulia by Ministry of Health in conjunction with DBKL.

Visit to Danau Kota Flat - hearing out the problems faced by our Muslim brothers in their surau.

Hearing out and talking to the Residents Association's Chief of Danau Kota pertaining to their long list of problems.

ATTENTION: It has come to my awareness that there were many people making their rounds in Danau Kota who had claimed that they were representing me or working on my behalf.

This is not true and I have not appointed nor given any authority to anyone or any organisation to carry out such 'work' on my behalf.

Should I be appointing people to approach the residents for whatever reason or cause, you will hear of it from me first in this blog.

I urge the rakyat of Wangsa Maju not to be easily taken in by these people's talk and, under no circumstance, please do not contribute money or funds to whatever program or project they claim to be undertaking.

Thank you.

--------------------------------------------------

Yesterday at the Jamuan Makan Malam in Section 1, I heard that our Muslim brothers had problems with their surau. Dirty water was flowing out from the sewage pipe from upstairs. I was extremely surprised to learn that this problem had been brought to the attention of the previous MCA MP and nothing had been done. Well, this is very normal for me now because I have been facing many problems which were grossly neglected and carried forward from many years ago.

I assured our Muslim brothers that I will contact the developer of Danau Kota Flats to attend to this problem. I will also be questioning DBKL, especially Jabatan Perancang, why on earth did it issue Certificates of Fitness for the Danau Kota Flats without building a surau? I would have thought all facilities should have been completed before Certificates of Fitness are issued. I had also been told by our Muslim brothers that a piece of land had been allocated for the surau but there was no plan to build it at the moment. I do not know why.

In the interim, the broken sewage pipe must be attended to by the developer immediately as it involves a place of worship.

After I had attended to our Muslim brothers’ problem, I didn’t know that I was about to stumble upon a mine field! One Mr Lim, who is a resident association leader approached me with all the problems and I must confess that I was shocked to my bones after hearing what he had told me.

To understand more about the Danau Kota Flats, we must go back to history as the project had been abandoned and taken over by several companies. We must also take into consideration the people behind all the companies that had taken over this project in order to understand it better.

Brief History:

It all began in 1982 when the authority wanted to move out the squatters from Kampung Pasir. So the Danau Kota Flats were born. Peremba was the first developer to develop Danau Kota Flats. The construction of the flats was abandoned a few times and several other developers took over from Peremba to complete the development of the Danau Kota Flats. Several developers were involved before the five blocks of flats were finally completed. A unit of flat cost RM25,000-00.

Trust me, there are a lot to check up on the history of this Danau Kota Flats. There are still many unanswered questions with regards to the Kg Pasir land, the tin mine land and the original piece of land occupied by the army known as Wederbun Camp. Subsequently Wederbun Camp was moved to the present site opposite the JPJ. Now the development of this piece of huge prime land had been undertaken by a special developer. Perhaps someone, somewhere would be able to provide me with more information on the history of this piece of “land”, which Wederbun Camp was situated, off Jalan Genting Kelang.

For the moment, I will not go any further until I have verified the stories that I have heard so far.

Problems:

I had been informed that many squatters from Kg Pasir and residents in the vicinity had not been allotted units at the Danau Kota Flats. I was also informed that there are 1,900 units of flats for the 5 blocks of Danau Kota Flats.

A vital question to the developer: have they allocated the low cost flats in Danau Kota Flats to ALL the registered squatters of Kg Pasir and the residents in the vicinity?

The conditions of the Danau Kota Flats were appalling. I was told that when it rained residents had to use umbrellas in the lift! At Block C, the lifts break down on an average of 3 to 4 times a day. The lift problems had been in existence since year 2002 until now.

Collection of rubbish was badly attended to by the Service Management company.

Anti-Lightning Cables were stolen and the management had not installed new anti-lightning cables. Whenever there is lightning, electrical appliances like TV, radio and etc. will be destroyed.

Inadequate parking spaces for the residents. I just wonder how on earth did Jabatan Perancang approve such a big project with such limited number of parking spaces.

There are too many foreigners/immigrants in Danau Kota Flats. They are mainly from Bangladesh, Indonesia, China, (Negroes), Myanmar, Vietnamese and Thailand. I am sure that many of these foreigners are without proper permits. Strictly speaking they are far too many illegal immigrants in Danau Kota Flats. I will inform the respective authority and immigration department about this.

The Service Management company:

The Service Management company has been changed by the developer without consulting the flat owners. The Service Management company also had been collecting RM45 per flat every month and another RM4 per month go into a sinking fund account. To-date the flat owners have no access to the accounts of the funds collected (general maintenance and sinking fund accounts). This is not right. The flat owners must demand for an independent auditor to audit the maintenance and sinking fund accounts.

The flat owners should write to the Commissioner of Building in Dewan Bandaraya demanding for the formation of a Joint Management Committee (JMC), where the flat owners themselves will be elected to form this JMC to run its own affairs.

I shall be contacting the Service Management company and the authorities to sort out the above matters. I will be having a meeting with the leaders of the Residents Association in Danau Kota this coming Wednesday, 18 June 2008.

With the above background, now I can understand why the known two tricksters had been trying their utter best to mislead the Danau Kota Flats owners to not meet up with me and at the same time run me down to the ground that I do not care. This is typical of BN style of politics which is politics of deceit. They hope to win with lies and misdeeds.

Thank you very much to the Danau Kota residents for alerting me of the BN dirty tricks.

Addendum: With regard to the problem of Service Management companies not performing up to mark and mismanaging 'maintenance and sinking fund' accounts of privately owned flats, apartments, condominiums, etc., Danau Kota Flats are certainly not alone in this issue. I have heard of numerous other similar cases that are happening, not only in KL, but also throughout the country. The authorities must be made aware of this problem and the guilty parties brought to book to protect the rakyat's hard-earned savings and money.

Your MP's Question of the Week #13

Terjemahan di sini.

The 41% jump of 78 sen to RM2.70 per litre of petrol on 05 June announced by the Badawi administration is harsh to the extreme.

More so when Malaysia is a net exporter of petroleum. (Please study chart below to compare our petrol price with other oil producing countries.)

Courtesy of malaysiakini

The prices of everything will be affected and the rakyat will suffer when their salaries have generally not increased since the last financial crisis in 1997.

The prices of essential items like rice, fish, eggs, chicken, flour, sugar, cooking oil and condensed milk, etc. have already shot up drastically. With the same amount of money in hand, the rakyat can only buy less. This means families will have less to eat when it comes to food. The damaging effects of the high petrol price on the cost of housing and transportation are also two other looming worries which will crush heavily on the rakyat in the days to follow.

The Badawi administration, it seems, is insensitive and is prepared to let the rakyat suffer by increasing the price of petrol exorbitantly. The rakyat want to speak up and let the sleeping prime minister wake up to their problems. But the police and the lame duck prime minister himself have gone to the mainstream media and told the public not to protest. The question for this week then, is ...

As a citizen of this country, do you think it is just and fair for the police and the prime minister of Malaysia to prevent the people from collectively voicing their hardships to their government in public so that measures can be taken to alleviate their problems?

12 June 2008

"No more petrol price increases this year"

That's what the Prime Minister said earlier today as reported here,

"There will be no further increase to the price of fuel in the country this year despite the possibility of the global price of oil reaching US200 (RM660) per barrel."

Can we take the PM's word for it though he has been known and proven true to "flip-flop" on what he has said or promised? I leave it to you all to judge the truth of the PM's statement.

Good night and sleep well, Malaysia.

Visit to Taman Melati

On Sunday 8 June in the morning I visited the Taman Melati market and touched base with the rakyat. The constituents seemed upbeat despite the recent 41% increase in petrol price. The effect will be felt sooner or later as the petrol price increase will have a knock-on effect on the cost of daily essentials and utilities.

Supporters and I also later visited the home of the late Allayarham Nadxaman who passed on recently at the age of 41 years old. Allayarham was one of the PKR leaders in Taman Melati. He left behind wife and 10 children, with the youngest being 3 years old. A contribution was made to Allayarham's family.

My deepest condolence to the family. Al-Fatihah.

Melawati Taman Melati

Ucapan takziah. Al-Fatihah.

視察 TAMAN MELATI

AL-FATIHAH.

Police report lodged against Shell petrol station for alleged adulterated petrol

During my visit to Taman Melati on Sunday yesterday (8 June 2008), a petty trader by the name of En Anuar Bin Halili of Jalan Air Keroh, Setapak, sought my help to highlight a police report which he had lodged against a Shell petrol station in Wangsa Maju.

The report was made after his motor vehicle had developed engine problems after filling up with petrol at the said petrol station. His report was lodged under Wangsa Maju Report No: 6089/2008.

In the said police report, En Anuar had alleged that the last time he had filled up his motor vehicle with petrol was on 5 June 2008 at approximately 7.15 p.m. at a Shell petrol station in Wangsa Maju. Soon after that his motor vehicle developed engine problems with no power and 'shaking' all the time. He brought his motor vehicle to a mechanic for checking and the mechanic diagnosed that the petrol in his car had been 'mixed with kerosene.'

This is a serious matter and I urge the Ministry of Consumers Affairs and Shell Malaysia to thoroughly investigate this allegation.

Your MP's Question of the Week #12

The Badawi administration had promised that the subsidy money saved (RM9.9 billion) from the last petrol price increase will go to improve public transportation.

As far as I can see, the sorry state of affairs of the public transportation had not improved one bit. Where had the billions of Ringgit gone to and for what purpose?

On 4 June at the stroke of 12 midnight, the price of petrol was increased again by 41% by the Badawi administration - a jump of 78 sen, this time, to RM2.70 per liter. It'll be a further net subsidy saving amounting to more billions and billions of Ringgit (RM13.7 billion a year estimated).

So the question for this week is: With the huge surplus received from the over-night increase in petrol price, where do you think the Badawi government should concentrate on its spending?

Soalan Mingguan MP anda #12
