Your MP's Question of the Week #14

Terjemahan di sini.

In blogosphere which I have read here and there, the general perception has been that I have been "getting too personal" with AirAsia.

The complaints seem to range from why I continue to "harp" on the issues that I have raised in this blog and in parliament and why I also can't seem to be able to let go when the people's money have been sinisterly being abused for this private company.

If I am not wrong, most people would have preferred me to "close one eye." I really don't see the wisdom in that because why would I do that when I know fully well that two eyes will allow me to see things in better perspective?

To be honest, I have nothing personal against AirAsia and I wish I didn't have to raise all those issues with regard to the building of the LCCT for a private company using public funds and the money owed to MAB to the tune of RM110 million.

Just when I thought I would relent and not be too hard on AirAsia, this had to crop up.

After you have read what this blogger's take about this same airline is all about then you guys and gals can come back and then tell me whether, all this while, I have a 'good nose' to sniff out the dirty trails where our people's hard-earned money had been willy nilly used to prop up private businesses or not. Go, and read all about it here.

So the question for this week is this:

Should your MP for Wangsa Maju 'close one eye' on dirty maneuvers of the administration of using public's money to 'finance' private companies or he should continue to keep both his eyes wide open to such subtle or blatant abuses of public funds?

Your MP's Question of the Week #13

Terjemahan di sini.

The 41% jump of 78 sen to RM2.70 per litre of petrol on 05 June announced by the Badawi administration is harsh to the extreme.

More so when Malaysia is a net exporter of petroleum. (Please study chart below to compare our petrol price with other oil producing countries.)

Courtesy of malaysiakini

The prices of everything will be affected and the rakyat will suffer when their salaries have generally not increased since the last financial crisis in 1997.

The prices of essential items like rice, fish, eggs, chicken, flour, sugar, cooking oil and condensed milk, etc. have already shot up drastically. With the same amount of money in hand, the rakyat can only buy less. This means families will have less to eat when it comes to food. The damaging effects of the high petrol price on the cost of housing and transportation are also two other looming worries which will crush heavily on the rakyat in the days to follow.

The Badawi administration, it seems, is insensitive and is prepared to let the rakyat suffer by increasing the price of petrol exorbitantly. The rakyat want to speak up and let the sleeping prime minister wake up to their problems. But the police and the lame duck prime minister himself have gone to the mainstream media and told the public not to protest. The question for this week then, is ...

As a citizen of this country, do you think it is just and fair for the police and the prime minister of Malaysia to prevent the people from collectively voicing their hardships to their government in public so that measures can be taken to alleviate their problems?

Your MP's Question of the Week #12

The Badawi administration had promised that the subsidy money saved (RM9.9 billion) from the last petrol price increase will go to improve public transportation.

As far as I can see, the sorry state of affairs of the public transportation had not improved one bit. Where had the billions of Ringgit gone to and for what purpose?

On 4 June at the stroke of 12 midnight, the price of petrol was increased again by 41% by the Badawi administration - a jump of 78 sen, this time, to RM2.70 per liter. It'll be a further net subsidy saving amounting to more billions and billions of Ringgit (RM13.7 billion a year estimated).

So the question for this week is: With the huge surplus received from the over-night increase in petrol price, where do you think the Badawi government should concentrate on its spending?

Soalan Mingguan MP anda #12

Your MP's Question of the Week #11

Maybank is Malaysia's largest domestic bank. It is also a government linked company with the government having close to 60% control of the banking group's assets.

Recently Maybank has disclosed that it intends to buy over Temasek Holdings' (a Singapore government linked company) shares in Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) for a premium of 4.6 times above its book value for a total sum of RM8.6 billion.

One of the reasons given for Maybank's proposed purchase of Temasek Holdings shares in BII has been to give Maybank a foothold in the financial sector in Indonesia.

The Government or Bank Negara in particular has to weigh heavily on the following controversial issues with regard to the purchase and they are:

1. Maybank is buying the shares at a premium of 4.6 times above the book value;

2. This transaction is benefiting Temasek Holdings, a Singapore government linked company (and Singapore has just recently been given sovereignty over Pulau Batu Puteh by the International Court of Justice in The Hague);

3. Temasek Holdings will be making a capital gain of RM2.6 billion;

4. This transaction would likely be benefiting a consultant company with millions of RM in consultancy fees.

The question for this week then is:

Should Bank Negara stop Maybank from its proposed acquisition of Temasek Holdings' shares in Bank Internasional Indonesia at a premium of 4.6 times above the book value to protect the minority shareholders, rakyat and country's interest?

Soalan Mingguan MP anda #11

1. Maybank bercadang membeli saham pada harga tinggi, 4.6 kali melebihi nilai buku;

2. Pembelian ini akan menguntungkan Temasek Holdings, sebuah syarikat berhubung erat dengan kerajaan Singapura (dan Singapura baru-baru ini diberi hakmilik Pulau Batu Puteh oleh Mahkamah Keadilan Antarabangsa di Hague, Belanda);

(note penterjemah: Undilah kerajaan Barisan Nasional).

1.马来亚银行以超过账面价值4.6倍的价格付出佣金;

2.这宗交易的利益方是淡马锡集团,一家新加坡政府相关公司。(而新加坡最近在海牙国际法庭成功获得白礁岛的主权);

3.淡马锡集团将会获得26亿令吉的资本增益(capital gain);

Your MP's Question of the Week #10

Kuala Lumpur is working towards being a world-class city. Apart from developing the environment and infrastructure in an orderly and responsible manner to live up to that dream, the city must - as top priority - look to managing its people's issues with care, love and understanding.

For what is a world-class city when the cityscape and bricks and mortars may look good but its people living in it are being bullied, antagonised and ignored? Therefore, your MP's question for this week is ...

Should the Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur be elected by the rakyat of KL so that he/she can be more effective in looking into the rakyat's problems and solving them without being inhumane and high-handed?

Your MP's Question of the Week #9

The artificial raising of oil price by the US to protect its dollar, which will soon become banana notes, has caused a worldwide crisis. The worst of which is the looming food crisis and prices are going out of control.

And this in turn has caused the prices of our daily essential goods to rise at an alarming rate. Which is often the result of unfair practices and indiscriminate raising of prices by producers and suppliers right down to the retailer.

The consumer is the one who ultimately pays for all such increases which are usually questionable.

For example, when the price of flour has increased by 20 sen for a kilo, the roti canai or fried mee seller will quickly charge an extra 20 sen for each of these items they sell. Does one roti canai or a plate of fried mee require one kilo of flour to prepare?

There are many instances of such ridiculous price increases for essential items and the rakyat should be protected against such unscrupulous profiteering to control inflation.

Should the government control the increase of prices of essential items at all point-of-sales i.e. the wet and dry markets, pasar malam(s), super and mini markets, sundry shops, restaurants, coffee shops, hawker stalls, etc.?

Soalan Mingguan MP Anda #9

Your MP's Question of the Week #8

The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the controversial VK Lingam video clip, headed by chairperson Haidar Mohamed Noor, has submitted a four-volume report to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong at the Istana Negara this morning.

Reliable sources have revealed that the report has probably confirmed the following findings:

1) That the video clip was authentic;

2) That the Indian-looking man talking on the phone was VK Lingam and that the person whom he was talking to on the other end of the line was Ahmad Fairus, the former Chief Justice of Malaysia who retired in 2007 in the midst of the controversies.

In the event that the above findings are true, should the government immediately:

1) Forward the report to the Attorney General's office for its consideration to institute charges against the culprits highlighted in the video clip for interfering with the administration of justice and subverting the course of justice;

2) Reform the judiciary and compensate all the victims of injustice perpetrated by these personalities; and

3) Set up another Royal Commission to investigate into other serious allegations of improprieties of those retired judges and a sitting judge, which the previous Royal Commission of Inquiry did not allow detailed evidences to be ventilated at its hearing?

Soalan Mingguan MP Anda #8

1) Klip video itu adalah sahih dan tulen;

1) Memberikan laporan itu kepada Pejabat Pendakwaraya untuk mengambil tindakan tuduhan terhadap mereka yang terlibat dalam klip video itu kerana campur tangan dalam pentadbiran kehakiman;
