Also, here's what happened before I gave my speech yesterday...

Before the ceramah started, a resident came up to me with a list of problems, which have not been attended to by the MCA candidate. The issues are security in Wangsa Maju, clogged and smelly drains, flats not re-painted for many years, children's playground too small for the 7,000 residents and they have not seen his face ever since he was elected in 2004.

After walking about and talking with the voters for the past few days, I could gather that their No.1 concern is the security and high crime-rate in Wangsa Maju.

In fact, security is one of the major issues in Malaysia now and Malaysians are very concerned with this life-endangering state of affair, which has been grossly neglected by the Barang Naik party.

I am told that only 7% of the police force was allocated for crime prevention and the rest was for crime investigation and special branch, which is to monitor the activities of the opposition parties. I dare say that 7% is far too low and it was for this reason that the crime rate in Malaysia is on the increase.

It looks like the Barang Naik administration is not interested in crime prevention and is solely responsible for the total failure of its policy in this area. And it is for this reason that Nurin was kidnapped in Wangsa Maju.

Let's be serious about the issue of crime prevention. Now that Nurin had been kidnapped and until this day the police is still groping in the dark ... let's give this matter serious thought.

Let's not wait until our children are kidnapped and then start taking action. It will be too late. Therefore, let's take preventive actions by using your precious vote to vote for me, WHO SAYS WHAT HE MEANS AND MEANS WHAT HE SAYS.

My dear voters, if you elect me as your MP, fighting crime will be one of my main priorities. I will push the government to make crime prevention as one of Malaysia's main national agenda. I will make sure parliament will hear me and take positive action. I will make sure I deliver.

Therefore, please help me to help you. I need your vote to speak for you - in and out of parliament. Thank you.

Undilah KeADILan! Vote KeADILan!

Saya yang Berkhidmat

Meeting the rakyat on the ground

Wee Choo Keong was at the pasar malam at Taman Setapak on Wednesday night, 27 February 2008, to meet his constituents.

He is the Wangsa Maju parliamentary candidate under Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the soon-to-be-held general election this March 8. Also accompanying him was Dr. Ramzan (with flags), PKR leader for Wangsa Maju.

Media Release by Wee Choo Keong, PKR candidate for P116 Wangsa Maju

Release date: 28-02-08

Abdullah Badawi said yesterday:
"Judge BN by its track record"

In the 2004 General Elections (GE) campaign, Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi (Badawi) had pledged that fighting corruption was his first priority if he were to win the GE. The nation gave him a landslide victory.

Fighting Corruption

Soon after Badawi took office of the Prime Minister (PM), after Kasitah Adam was charged for corruption involving RM3.5 million, Badawi announced that it was one down and there were 18 more big “sharks” to go. The nation backed Badawi all the way with his call to fight corruption.

Four years passed by, and while Badawi was still having his “honeymoon,” most of these 18 big “sharks” were still swimming in Parliament until it was dissolved on 24-02-08. Malaysians laughed at the bribery charge of RM3.5 million against a minister as in the case of Kasitah Adam because it is an open secret that bribery at high places involves a few hundred million Ringgit.

How can one fight against corruption when the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) itself is corrupt. During the Royal Commission of Inquiry, Dato V K Lingam’s secretary, Ms Jeyanthi, said that an ACA officer had told her that the ACA had to close the investigation because the case involved powerful people in the BN administration and she was paid RM3,000-00 to keep ‘quiet.’ If the ACA was also involved in such corrupt activities, then Badawi’s record for fighting corruption was just another misleading and meaningless public statement that he had been known to make.

In fact, it is an open secret in Malaysian society that BN has inculcated a culture that generally if the rakyat want to get things done fast then they had to pay bribes for quick delivery. When one is stopped by the traffic police, one is expected to pay bribes otherwise one will be issued with a summons and face inconveniences. CORRUPTION HAS BECOME A WAY OF LIFE UNDER THE BADAWI’S ADMINISTRATION. IT HAS GONE FROM BAD TO WORST.

Launching of National Plans

Badawi had launched the 9th Malaysian Plan some two years ago with massive publicities in our controlled mass media. Until this very day, there has been no public debate on the 9th Malaysian Plan nor has it been put into action. It was a total failure for Badawi, as the ex-PM, for treating the 9th Malaysian Plan, a serious national agenda, as a joke and another of his publicity stunt.

I call upon Badawi to produce his record on fighting corruption since 2004 and how many of the plans and/or projects that he had announced had been implemented.

Wangsa Maju is to us Wangsa SeMaju !

UPDATE 28-02-08: Ceramah Perdana Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim bersama calon PKR Parliament Wangsa Maju - 28-02-08 (Khamis), 8.00 malam - di Padang Permainan Blok A8, Seksyen 1, Wangsa Maju. Semua di jemput hadir!

UPDATE 3.44 pm: Large-scale vandalism and destruction of PKR's posters, banners, buntings, etc. in the Wangsa Maju constituency have been noted carried out by suspected agents of Barang Naik party. We have made a police report at the Wangsa Maju police station regarding this underhanded tactic and urge the authority to take stern action and ensure fair play throughout the election campaign period. Our police report number is 00274/80.

My dear constituents,

First and foremost, let me declare P116 to be
Wangsa SeMaju for all the voters.

Why? Because after spending quality time with you over the last 3 evenings, I have seen and felt the 'progress' that has already taken place in your hearts and minds.

You are sharp, smart and forward-looking than what the previous administration gives you credit for. They think bodoh and therefore they think you are like them. But they are so wrong and they insult your intelligence.

They think they can continue to divide Malaysians. They think they can continue to lie to the rakyat. They think they can continue to rape and abuse the country's wealth for their own benefit and leave the rakyat to suffer and fend for themselves.

They think wrong! And I know you know better - and deserve better -my fellow Wangsa SeMaju voters.

You deserve recognition and respect. You deserve better representation for your voice. You deserve your share of the country's resources and wealth that's rightfully yours as rakyat of this constituency and country. You deserve freedom as your fundamental right.

Above all, you deserve to be heard and you deserve to be served.

And I say Wangsa SeMaju voters you will be heard, like I have been, and you will be served.

Give me your support and work with me and together let's drive out the Barang Naik party. Let's bring in Barisan Rakyat, with Parti Keadilan Rakyat walking and working with you.

As long as I am doing the right things and have your support, there's nothing that we cannot achieve together to ensure our freedom and bring greater progress to this beloved place you call home.

I will not be intimidated by the police, the agents of the Barang Naik party. Remember, in a democratic society, the people should be accorded with the fundamental right of freedom of speech, assembly and movement. The Barang Naik party is only interested in paying lip service to freedom.

Wangsa SeMaju voters, always remember this: when freedom is outlawed, the outlaws are free.

So I do hope that the Barang Naik party will take note of this and stop denying the people their freedom and right. We will not accept your bully and lies. We will be unstoppable.

Thank you my dear Wangsa SeMaju voters for all your kind words, support and encouragement. I shall do my utmost to serve you in and out of Parliament - without fear or favour.

Let's work together to get rid of

the Barang Naik party on 08 March

and make P116 into the enviable

Wangsa SeMaju !

Police stopped our ceramah last night; we'll go for it again tonight!

UPDATE: "Choo Keong: Flying Dutchman no more" by Terence Netto at malaysiakini. Read it here.

Versi Bahasa "Choo Keong: 'Flying Dutchman' akhirnya bertemu tempat berlabuh" di sini.

We had expected the BN (Barang Naik) party to resort to their dirty tactic sooner or later during the general election campaign period. Well, it happened last night.

Our ceramah at Taman Sungai Mulia, which began at about 9.30 p.m., was stopped by the police at approximately 11.00 p.m. even though we had applied for a permit. But the police claimed otherwise. The large crowd present was unhappy and angry with the unfair police action but we of Parti Keadilan Rakyat managed to calm everybody down. We declared that we are law abiding though others may not be.

In any event, true to their form, this is one of the dirty tricks used by the Barang Naik party to prevent other political parties from interacting with the rakyat cum voters. They must be afraid of losing ground with their already shaky position and that's why the dastardly desperate act.

Rather than reacting emotionally, we at Parti Keadilan Rakyat call upon all voters to reject BN for such undemocratic action at the ballot box come March 08. Hidup Barisan Rakyat!

Your vote and support will make the difference

Now that the nomination for the 12th General Election is over, you and I must start to work relentlessly to ensure that the Barisan Rakyat wins.

Barisan Rakyat is all of us in unity for social justice – PKR, PAS, DAP, PSM, PASOK and you and me.

I will need whatever help and support you can give me because Wangsa Maju is a new constituency for me. Please call Mr. Wong at 013-642 9303 should you wish to volunteer your service.

My beloved rakyat of Wangsa Maju, please also help me to speak and stand up against the might of the BN (BARANG NAIK) party. And with your votes strongly behind me, I am certain that we can easily overcome the Barang Naik party with ease. So walk and stand with me against all the injustices perpetrated by the Barang Naik party.

YOU, the voters, are the boss of Malaysia for this period. Even the Sleepy Head, his son-in-law, Khairy, and their machais have to run to you pleading for your votes. In other words, your future and the country's future are now in your hands.

As I have said all along, we are the MANAGING DIRECTORS” of our own destiny and so let us take charge. Let us take control of our future and don’t simply hand it over to the corrupt, the arrogant and the irresponsible who are there only for themselves and leave the rakyat to suffer and to be abused.

I believe that YOU and I share the same hope for a clean, fair and responsible government. So vote Barisan Rakyat – for country and for all Malaysians.

Thank you.

Wee Choo Keong to Serve

Wee Choo Keong yang Berkhidmat

UPDATE 23-02-08: To avoid any 3-corner clash, it's confirmed I'll be vying for the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat in Wilayah Persekutuan under the umbrella of Parti Keadilan Rakyat. PKR's stand against social injustice is similar to that of MDP's (Malaysians Democratic Party) and that makes us friends with a common mission.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to PKR - especially Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has unselfishly given me this golden opportunity to represent PKR and the rakyat in Wangsa Maju.

Warm greetings, my fellow Malaysians ...

I wish you and your family the best of health and hope everything is as well as life will provide.

Having said that, and without sounding patronising, I am of the view that life can only be as good if we will take it upon ourselves to do the necessary to make things happen. Like they say, we are 'the managing directors of our destiny' so let us take control and not delegate this all-important life-affecting responsibility to the self-serving lot that has become so commonplace.

It's exactly with this belief in mind that I have decided to create this blog. I seek your indulgence and hope my views about things in general, and our socio-political condition in our beloved Malaysia in particular, will strike a common chord among us and therefore allow us to touch base with each other and engage in fruitful discourses.

We may not all agree altogether but at least let us agree to disagree that we may learn from the wisdom of an alternative perspective.

It's no secret that I will be contesting in this soon-to-be-held 12th general election and hope you and your family will give me and other opposition parties the support to enable us help achieve the things we wish for our family, friends, fellow Malaysians and country.

I shall declare that I am here to serve my fellow Malaysians without fear or favour and let it be known our common interests are always above my own so help me God.

Stay tune and may God bless you all. Thank you.

Wee Choo Keong
